Weekend Fun 5/8 – 5/10
This weekend provides a couple opportunities for free art and free drinks – a mix that you can’t go wrong with! Feel free to share any of your weekend suggestions with the rest of us by commenting on this post.
Friday
Neon Party @ The Highlands: Break out the 80’s headbands, sunglasses, and bright green leggings and head to The Highlands on Hollywood for free vodka from 9pm to 10pm and a live DJ and drum performance from 10pm to 3am. And if you’ve ever wanted to be on a guest list here’s your chance! They have free guest list entry all night when you RSVP to events@nasstive.com.

Friday Night Jazz @ LACMA: We posted about this a few weeks ago but thought it might be worth mentioning again! This Friday’s concert features the Jon Mayer Trio (not to be confused with the John Mayer Trio) and runs from 6-8pm. We’re especially big fans of these events because they leave you with an hour to explore the LACMA once the concert ends!

Saturday
Santa Monica Revel with a Cause Festival: Head down to Santa Monica for an event so green you’ll make Kermit the frog jealous. In fact he’ll be green with envy! Too far? There will be performances on solar powered stages, recycled fashion, a global marketplace, an international cuisine, free bike valet, and even workshops to help you learn how to become more eco-friendly! Who said it’s not easy being green? oh… right.
Cost: FREE
Newberry Gallery Opening: We love attending gallery openings because they make us feel like we have a lot more money than
we actually do. Who doesn’t want an excuse to dress up, enjoy free drinks, and mingle with art enthusiasts? The Newberry Gallery in Santa Monica will host an opening reception from 7pm to 10pm this Saturday to give you an opportunity to check out the space. The first exhibition of the gallery will showcase the work of Michael Newberry, the gallery’s founder. Complimentary wine and lemonade will be served!

Sunday
Mothers Day: Treat the mothers in your life to a special day without breaking the bank. Check out our Mother’s Day post for suggestions!
Cost: Depends on how often you’ve been calling her…

Asssscat @ UCBT: Known as the improv juggernaut of the UCB Theater, this show has nothing to do with asses or cats (we don’t think at least). The show combines monologues and improv to bring you a series of “high octane, balls-to-the-wall improvised sketches.” It usually costs $8 (on Saturdays) so we definitely recommend checking it out on a Sunday. But get there early because they don’t take reservations and it’s quite popular!
