Art Party Agenda: 5/25 – 5/31

By Paul

Ok, so I said APA was going to go up Monday every week and it’s not Monday. But if you think about it, since yesterday was a holiday and holidays are like weekends then the day after a holiday is just the same as a Monday. That’s my logic. Enjoy!

M+B is showcasing Lisa Jack’s Barack Obama: The Freshman. This is a collection of black and white photos taken of president Barack “Barry” Obama while he was still a freshman studying at Occidental college. This series was featured in Time Magazine when Barack Obama was named 2008 “Man of the Year” and this is your opportunity to see these rare photos on display for the first time ever! Now there’s something you can tell your grandkids about. In addition to being a really cool exhibit, the gallery will be serving an eco-friendly open bar.
Time: 6pm – 9pm
Place: Map
Serving: Free Eco-friendly drinks

Khastoo Gallery  is hosting THUNK a collection of various media from artists James Hyde, Jimmy Raskin, Robert Reynolds, Richard Tuttle, and Alex Olson. We have very little information except this:
Heaped on the tropes of post-blob being, let the joyous surface rubbing, the antidisconceptual cluster hump of shadows and rainbow inventories, commence. Thus spake Pinocchio, and so sayeth all of us wooden and deceitful boys and girls. Objects in this exhibition may appear sadder than they are.
That’s good enough for me.
Time: 6pm – 9pm
Place: Map
Serving: Free Beer and Wine

Friday
Outpost for Contemporary Art presents Paul Druecke’s The Cool White Cube, a Collection of photography exploring the american refrigerator as it exists in the homes of varied people including but not limited to suburban families, gallerists, film directors, chiropractors and waiters. They are also hosting a talk between the artist and Sara Daleiden, member of the LA Urban Rangers.
Time: 6pm – 7:30pm (talk begins at 7:30)
Place: Map
Serving: Free Beer and Wine

Corey Helford Gallery is holding a solo exhibition by renowned Pop-artist, Coop. This exhibit steps out of his arsenal of sin to unveil the next phase in his evolving creations of neo-Pop imagery.
Time: 7pm – 10pm
